Accommodation Services – Group Homes

  • Westhaven supports 62 residents in 14 group homes, modified as required according to the needs of the residents
  • applicants must be eligible for a Disability Support Pension, aged at least 18 years and have a developmental or intellectual disability
  • support ranges from daily morning and evening staff to 24/7 support with all aspects of life including personal care, mobility, community access, social involvement, skills training, communication, transport, family relationships and behaviour
  • clients with dual and multiple diagnoses are assisted
  • a majority of group homes are clustered in south-east Dubbo with a few others scattered through the city
  • clustered homes provide enhanced peer support
  • most homes are located within moderate walking distance of shops and Westhaven’s Business Service
  • prospective clients must apply through the ADHC Intake Line 1-300-134-450
  • fees are fixed at 75% of full DSP excluding Pension Supplement, plus up to 100% of Mobility Allowance according to a sliding scale of transport use, plus IEM allowance if applicable

Accommodation Services – Drop-In Support

  • Westhaven supports up to 23 clients, mainly living in one- and two-bedroom flats in Dubbo
  • many of these flats are owned by Westhaven and rented to the clients, providing access to the rental market and security of tenure
  • applicants must be eligible for a Disability Support Pension, aged at least 18 years and have a developmental or intellectual disability
  • support is tailored to each person’ individual requirements, with a strong emphasis on developing skills and increasing independence
  • clients with dual and multiple diagnoses are assisted
  • prospective clients must apply through the ADHC Intake Line 1-300-134-450
  • there are no fees other than accommodation rental

Respite Services

  • Westhaven operates a variety of respite services for persons with intellectual or other disability and their carers
  • DAP respite, funded by ADHC, provides a minimum of 168 hours of planned, flexible respite where the carer is aged over 60 (or 45 if ATSI)
  • other respite may be funded by a range of other organisations including ADHC and may include emergency respite
  • respite is tailored according to the individual needs of the carer and the person receiving care
  • respite may be for in-home care, out-of-home accommodation and care, travel, holiday, day support, recreational activities
  • it may be taken as a single block or as a regular weekly or less frequent period, as arranged with carers and care recipients
  • DAP respite is limited in the number of places, and preference is given to those in greatest need
  • DAP respite is intended to support and strengthen the current care arrangement
  • applicants must have a disability; clients with dual and multiple diagnoses are assisted
  • fees may range from nil to full cost of service depending on type and level of funding, if available, and are advised or negotiated in advance – please enquire

Day Programs

  • Westhaven supports up to 45 clients in Dubbo
  • the Westhaven Day Centre is located at 475 Wheelers Lane, Dubbo
  • applicants must be eligible for a Disability Support Pension, aged at least 18 years and have a developmental or intellectual disability and be unable to work full-time
  • support is tailored to each person’ individual requirements, and may emphasise developing or maintaining skills
  • skills training and development, recreation and social engagement are facilitated
  • clients with dual and multiple diagnoses are assisted
  • prospective clients must apply through the ADHC Intake Line 1-300-134-450
